The adventure starts in the in the heart of the Sandveld, continues through the unfenced Khaudum National Park before entering the Caprivi Wetland paradise...
The Sandveld is home to the San, hunter-gatherers which were probably the first inhabitants of Namibia. Then there’s the Khaudum National Park, an unfenced wilderness area bordering Botswana and home to several big game species and a multitude of birds. Predators include lion, leopard, spotted hyaena, African wild-dog and jackal. The Khaudum is also the stronghold of Namibia’s roan antelope population. Large waterholes and pleasant evenings around the campfire will be remembered long after the dust has settled.
The sand of Bushmanland then gives way to marshlands, swamps, waterways and spectacular rivers as we spend some time on the banks of the Okavango River. Continuing further east we visit a variety of game parks while crossing numerous, streams, rivers and swamps. Expect exceptional birding, spectacular sunsets and a large variety of game. There will even be time for fishing on the Okavango-, Kwando- and Zambezi Rivers. The adventure ends either on the banks of the Linyanti - or Zambezi River, depending on the flood levels and the accessibility of the Mamili National Park.

Day 1 (22 Aug): Roy’s – Naye Naye Conservancy (±255km)
Our destination for Day 1 is the Naye Naye Conservancy, situated in the heart of Bushmanland against the Namibia/Botswana Border. Arriving at our (bush) camp for lunch we’ll make camp before departing on an afternoon game drive, exploring this remote and interesting area.
This region is the ancestral land of approximately 2000 Ju/’hoan San people, who live in scattered communities throughout the 890 000 ha area. The area east of Tsumkwe is characterised by a cluster of small vegetated pans, known as the Pannetjiesveld, while the two Dobe pans lie further to the north. The Naye Naye Pans are dry during late winter and because the southern boundary of the Khaudum Game Park is unfenced, game numbers fluctuate seasonally. Species include elephant, gemsbok, kudu, blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, roan, buffalo and tsessebe. In addition to wild dog, small numbers of lion, cheetah, leopard and both species of hyena also occur.
Day 2 (23 Aug): Naye Naye Conservancy – Sikereti Camp, Khaudum National Park (±95km)
Heading north we’ll negotiate thick sand on our way to the Sikereti Camp in the Khaudum National Park. The afternoon will be spend visiting the various waterholes in the vicinity of the camp.
Proclaimed in 1989, the densely wooded wilderness harbours several big game species and a multitude of birds. Large animals that occur throughout are elephant and giraffe, while predators are lion, leopard, spotted hyena and side-striped and black-backed jackal.
Day 3 (24 Aug): Sikereti Camp – Khaudum Camp (±80km)
Another full day of game viewing in the Khaudum, on our way to the most northern Khaudum camp. We’ll stop for lunch at a waterhole.
Day 4 (25 Aug) : Khaudum Camp – Nunda River Lodge, Okavango River (±160km)
After breakfast we’ll negotiate thick sand before reaching the B8 tar road between Rundu and Katima Mulilo.
Nunda Safari Lodge is a newly constructed safari lodge situated in Namibia’s wildlife paradise on the banks of the Okavango River - Western Caprivi. It is only a stone’s throw downstream of the Popa Falls and in close proximity to Mahango and Bwabwata (previously Caprivi National Park) Game Reserves. Nunda will be our base from where we’ll explore the many attractions in the area, do a bit of fishing or just simply relax on the banks of the Okavango. It is here where one can view exquisite African sunsets over the Okavango River with its abundant birdlife and resident hippo...
Day 5 (26 Aug): Mahango National Park, Buffalo and/or fishing (±70km)
The Nunda River Lodge will be our base from where we’ll explore the Mahango National Park and the Buffalo Park before ending the day with a sunset boat cruise on the Okavango River.
Day 6 is another one of the “rest days” on tour during which we will explore the Mahangu Game reserve where one can expect to see elephant, buffalo and hippo. Smaller game includes reedbuck and herds of red lechwe. The elusive sitatunga also occurs here but uses the swamps as a hide-out and is rarely glimpsed.
With a bird list far in excess of 400 species, Mahango is one of the top birding spots in Southern Africa. Noteworthy species include the wattled crane, copperytailed coucal, greater swamp warbler, slaty egret and pinkthroated longclaw.
Apart from game viewing and birding, Nunda also offers fishing trips on the Okavango where Nemwe and Tiger Fish are the two most sought-after catches!
Day 6 (27 Aug): Nunda River Lodge – Nambwa Community Camp, Kwando River (±230km)
Leaving the Okavango River behind we east through the Caprivi Strip for the Susuwe Triangle Nature Reserve where we will make camp on the banks of the Kwando River.
Day 7 (28 Aug): Exploring the Susuwe Triangle and Horse Shoe areas (±80)
The Susuwe area is known for its large herds of Buffalo and Elephant. The Horse Shoe area to the south of our camp is a beautiful and remote area...
Day 8 (29 Aug): Nambwa Community Camp – Zambezi or Linyanti River
If the Mamili area is accessible, we’ll head south to where the Kwando- and Linyanti Rivers meet, crossing various streams and small swamps on our way to a bush camp on the banks of the Linyanti River.
For the last couple of years however, this park was inaccessible due to high water levels...if that proves to be still the case, the convoy will head north-east for a final two days on the banks of the Zambezi River to the east of Katima Mulilo.
Day 9 (30 Aug): A Day of relaxation on the river...
We’ll explore the surroundings; do a bit of fishing before concluding the tour with a traditional braai...
